Addiction vs Substance Abuse
Our Addiction Specialists Can Help You Understand the Difference
Recent changes in mental health studies have made great strides in our understanding of addiction. Addiction treatments now more accurately reflect the reality of substance use disorders by viewing it as a spectrum and not one single diagnosis.
While some individuals may suffer with significant chemical and psychological addiction to certain substances or activities, others may not be addicted, but are nonetheless misusing. In both cases, the misuse of alcohol and drugs is doing harm to individuals, families, and communities.
Understanding the difference between addiction and substance abuse is critical to providing the most effective treatment.
Achieving Success By Treating Individuals' Needs
Diagnosing and treating each person's substance use disorder individually has important real-world implications. Unlike some programs that view all clients as "addicts" and apply a one-size-fits-all approach and therapy, we tailor a personalized care plan that is responsive to the severity and complexity of each client's condition.
Not every patient will require the same treatment. Depending on the needs of the individual, our patients may undergo:
- EDMR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing)
- Relapse prevention
- Substance abuse counseling
- Medication
- Nutritional therapy
- Psychotherapy
Educational and vocational consulting are just as important in helping people find and use their passions, gifts and motivations to begin living independently.
At Decision Point Center, we understand that each substance use disorder is just as individual and complex as the unique people affected by these issues. Here, you will find an experienced professional staff that will assess, inform, and treat on a truly individualized basis.

This facility deserves a special recognition. They have been around for years but the services they provide and the recovery that comes out of their facility, only seem to grow over the years. I have worked with Stephen from the admissions department and he has always gone above and beyond to make sure clients feel comfortable and get the care they need. I definitely recommend Decision Point Center!!!!- Ashley B.

How Much One-On-One Individual Care Will I Get?Individual therapy at Decision Point is determined by the individual needs of each and every client. In combination with our group therapy, our client will have scheduled one-on-one sessions with our specialists. These sessions consist of Family Counseling, Trauma Therapy, Psychiatry, Career and Academic Counseling, or Nutrition Counseling. In addition to these individual sessions, our clients will have a primary therapist who will work with them individually and in a group setting.

How Do I Know if I'm an Addict? At Decision Point we avoid labels and embrace empowerment. With our comprehensive assessments, clinical expertise, and varying levels and lengths of treatment we determine which route is best for your unique needs.

What types of disorders are covered under dual diagnosis treatment? There are several mental health disorders that we treat in our dual diagnosis program.
