Family Sculpting Therapy in Prescott, AZ
Gain Perspective and Understanding at Decision Point Center
Risk factors for addiction include your genetics and your environment, two factors that are largely influenced by your family. As such, many people who struggle with addiction cite family trauma or difficulties within their family unit as obstacles to sobriety.
When we help you overcome addiction at Decision Point Center, we are dedicated to finding therapies and solutions that work for you. This is one reason we use family sculpting to improve your interfamilial relationships and behavioral patterns.
Call Decision Point Center today at (844) 292-5010 or contact us online to learn more about our family sculpting therapy program!
Additional Therapies We Offer
If you do not wish to participate in family sculpting, that’s okay, too. We have many other therapies you can use as tools and techniques to help you overcome addiction.
These therapies include:
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
- Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
- Individual Family Therapy
- EMDR Trauma Therapy
- Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy
- Motivational Interviewing
- Solution-Focused Brief Therapy
Our compassionate team of therapists and medical professionals will work hard to develop a treatment plan that works for you!
Family Sculpting Techniques
In family sculpting, you will use a technique known as psychodrama to illuminate and change your perspective of events and dynamics within your family. Essential, the process is:
- You will choose an event from your childhood.
- You will arrange members of your therapy group as members of your family.
- Once everyone has a role, you will provide information and direction to the participants to help you recreate family dynamics, perceptions, and painful events in a safe space.
Why are the Benefits of Family Sculpting?
By watching your memories unfold from the outside, you might identify emotions, solutions, and thinking and behavioral patterns that you may not have noticed otherwise. The individuals you choose to ‘play’ your family members and the emotions you describe to fellow group members can be revealing, as well. You will also get the opportunity to work through a difficult event without being a part of it. Many participants also find that their trauma might mirror that of someone else in the group, so you may even realize that you are not alone in some of your more difficult experiences.
Additionally, when you translate your trauma into a scene, you have the type of control you may not have had in the original situation. This allows you to experiment with alternate endings, which many people find therapeutic.
Overall, family sculpting helps you re-experience and correct memories, which allows you to improve how you experience and cope with that memory and similar situations in real life. Are you struggling with a substance use disorder? Family sculpting is a solution that could work for you! Call Decision Point Center today at (844) 292-5010 or contact us online to learn more.
